PRESTATYN CHARITY CIRCUIT RACES 2008

Friday 12th September 2008

John Cosgrove (Onimpex-BioRacer) produced a well-timed late attack to take victory in the main senior 45 minute race at the Prestatyn Prom Bike Races in aid of RoadPeace on Sunday evening. He crossed the line 10 seconds clear of Chris Horsfield (Brooks Cycles) and Eric Degolier (Energy CC) at the head of a chasing group of 12 riders, who had ripped the field apart with a display of aggressive riding that pleased the several hundred spectators on the Beach Road East/Promenade course.

Conan Mayman (Rhyl CC) was best of the promoting club in 8th place, and Richie Mills (Rhyl CC) just outsprinted Prestatyn postman Mark Baker (Deeside Olympic/Veeboard/GWR for 14th place a minute further back.

In the under 12’s 20 minute race the keenly awaited contest between two of the local starlets, Dylan Kerfoot-Robson (Rhos-On-Sea CC) and Gwyn Lovibond (Rhyl CC) went the way of the former by just half a wheel on the line, the multi-Welsh champion from St.Asaph also taking two lap prizes on his way to victory.'

Kerfoot-Robson's brother took the U8's race, and the family received a signed poster of newly crowned World Womens Road Race champion Nicole Cooke, kindly provided by Stuart Stanton. '

Thanks to support from Prestatyn Town Council, Denbighshire County Council, Woods Motorcycles, Beaches Hotel and Harvey Homes of Distinction, the event raised well in excess of £100 for the charity for UK road crash victims and their families.'

BMX Competitive Track and Traffic-Free Road Circuit

Friday 8th August 2008

A potential BMX Competitive Track and Traffic-Free Road Circuit in Rhyl, North Wales, has launched an online petition and is urging as many people as possible to sign it from both in and outside cycle sport. It will be the first ever facility of its kind in the North Wales region, and is desperately needed for coaching, training and racing within several disciplines of cycle sport.

The project is being pushed by the Glan Morfa Cycling Association, an amalgam of three local clubs, two councillors, the local residents association and athletics club. 'This is a much-needed development for Rhyl and the region, in one of the poorest and deprived areas of Wales', commented the group's chairman, Craig Needs. 'We are grateful for the work so far of our volunteers, who have given their time in developing the plans so far, and also for the Denbighshire County Council and funding bodies for working with us. It is also being proposed as a memorial to four of our members killed by an out-of-control vehicle while part of our club run on Sunday 8th January 2006'.

Rhos-On-Sea CC member and GMCA secretary Wayne Jones hopes that it will make up in part for the failed bid for a circuit in Colwyn Bay in Eirias Park. 'Obviously my club were gutted when the original project we fought hard for in Colwyn Bay failed to materialise, but my club are more than happy to support and work on this potential facility 10 miles away.'

The petition can be signed at: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/RhylCC.

Two's up TT and buffet

Friday 11th July 2008

Following on from the success of last years two's up time trail, it has been decided that the Denbigh 9 mile time trial on the 30th July will be this years two's up event.

For the benefit of those that missed last years event and are not sure what a two's up event is, here is an explanation. Firstly it doesn’t mean that we all have a go at Mel’s tandem. It is simply a two person team time trail, where a fast rider is paired up with a slow rider.

After the event there will be a buffet at the Brookhouse Mill consisting of the usual fair of sandwiches, sausage rolls, vault au vaunts, chicken drumsticks etc. priced at £8.95 each.

We need to know who is coming to the buffet before the 24th July so please let Mel, Craig or Wyn know by either email, phone, forum, word of mouth etc. so that we can book.

Time trial charges

Thursday 10th April 2008

Please note it has been decided at a Committee meeting on April 9th that Club TT's will now be £1 to enter for everyone whether they be Rhyl or non-Rhyl CC riders. Juniors do not have to pay the £1 entry nor do "Come and Try It" riders for their first 2 events.

Time trial amendments

Thursday 10th April 2008

Due to a clash with some TLI Road Races on a Wednesday evening in June and July, some of our Denbigh TT's have now changed distance and start time:

June 4th 5 Mile has now changed to a 9 Mile event

June 11th 9 Mile now becomes a 5 mile event that MUST start at 6:45!

July 2nd 9 Mile will now be a 5 mile event which again MUST start at 6:45.
