Rhyl & Melyd TT Result - 5 Miles, Jan 1st 2010

Freezing temperatures and even some light snow did not prevent 12 riders lining up for the 2010 New Year's Day TT. However, some icy patches between Llandyrnog and Bodfari resulted in the shorter 5 mile course being used instead of the usual 9 mile one.

Mike Cummins denied Alan Overson a third straight win at this event by a margin of only 2 seconds with 13-04. Emyr Gronow's 3rd place was made all the more impressive by the fact that he arrived only minutes before the start, so had almost no warm-up before posting 13-22. Paul Rutt continued the VC Melyd domination in 4th with 13-47, and completing the all-Melyd Top 5 was Simon Price with 14-16.

Fergus Murray was the best of the Rhyl riders in 6th with 14-26. Just inside the 15-minute mark in 7th was Rhos On Sea's John Newsome who was new to the event. Another first-timer, Oliver Dale was next up in 8th with 15-27, and in 9th with 15-59 was Mark Farrer who rode on a full-spec Mountain Bike. Peter Hughes completed the Top 10 with 16-27, and Rob Mullen was the final finisher in 11th with 16-41. Jo Parmor had to retire just before the 2 mile mark when his seatpost came completely loose.

I'd like to give thanks to Bill and all the riders who braved the elements. Credit also to those who came to watch the event, especially as it wasn't the best of days to be standing around for any length of time.
